Work Placements

Work placement - First Steps

Work Placements

This is a collection of ideas I have gained during my 13yrs as a volunteer with the Engineering Development Trust - Year in Industry scheme.

If you are about to start a work expereince programme then I hope these thoughts will help you reach your goals.

Remember if you start a jouney without knowing where you are going, how will you know when you have raeched your destination?

Do not let life events dictate your course, have a PLAN

Create a PLAN

As you turn up to work on your first day you will need to get used to your new work environment, get to know the people, your supervisor and colleagues.
Find out  what is expected of you and where to find information. You may need research this yourself as most Companies will expect some self iniative and bags of motivation.  Work is not School.
More importantly you should think about:
  1.         Creating a Personal Development Action Plan. (DAP)
  2.         Starting your Personal Development Record (PDR)
  3.         Thinking about your Contribution to Business Award  competition entry (YINI Students only)
  4.         Starting to writing some S.M.A.R.T. objectives
